VSLC Open Water Rescuer Qualification<\/h1>\n

The Open Water Rescuer qualification is designed to give candidates the skills they need to look after people in controlled open water activities – such as swim events or kayak tours. It is typically delivered over 3 days.<\/p>\n

                      • Adult sudden collapse<\/li>\n
                      • Adult drowned<\/li>\n
                      • Child<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
                      • Demonstrate on a manikin basic life support with the use of a pocket mask<\/li>\n
                      • Demonstrate on a manikin opening an airway for a suspected spinal cord injury casualty<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                        Rescue Skills:<\/h2>\n

                        • Using a land based rescue aid, rescue a weak swimmer 10 metres from safety<\/li>\n
                        • Swim 50 metres to a panicking weak swimmer and perform a 50 metre torpedo buoy recovery<\/li>\n
                        • Swim 50 metres to an injured swimmer and perform a 50 metre torpedo buoy recovery<\/li>\n
                        • Demonstrate in-water Rescue Breathing \u2013 The simulated casualty should be in shallow water<\/li>\n
                        • Swim 50 metres with a torpedo buoy to rescue a simulated non- breathing casualty and perform deep water rescue breathing while r returning with the casualty<\/li>\n
                        • Demonstrate in shallow water the rescue of a simulated suspected spinal injury casualty<\/li>\n
                        • Demonstrate searching for a suddenly submerged casualty, perform two surface dives, one feet first, one head first<\/li>\n
                        • Demonstrate landing a casualty with assistance<\/li>\n
                        • Perform a safe, prompt and effective response to a simulated emergency situation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                            • Demonstrate the log roll and modified recovery position for spinal injury<\/li>\n
                            • Using a manikin demonstrate basic life support for adult sudden collapse<\/li>\n
                            • Using a manikin demonstrate basic life support for an adult drowning casualty<\/li>\n
                            • Using a manikin demonstrate basic life support for children<\/li>\n
                            • Swim continuously on the front in open water for 10 minutes<\/li>\n
                            • Using a land based rescue aid, rescue a weak swimmer 10 metres from safety<\/li>\n
                            • Swim 50 metres to a panicking weak swimmer and perform a 50 metre torpedo buoy recovery<\/li>\n
