Many more people will be enjoying a dip in the sea. When visiting the beach, make sure you know how to stay safe and identify a RIP! RIP currents are responsible for many drowning cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is a RIP?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rip currents are strong currents of water that flow away from the shore. They are generally powerful in larger surf, but you should never underestimate the power of the water. They can also be found around river mouths, estuaries and man-made structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They can flow faster than 4mph \u2013 that\u2019s faster than an Olympic swimmer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vslc.com.vn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/160510-tam-bien.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1002\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vslc.com.vn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/160510-tam-bien.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Source: VN Express<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How can you sport a RIP Current?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The things to look for are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>deeper, dark-coloured water;<\/li><li>fewer breaking waves;<\/li><li>a rippled surface surrounded by smooth waters;<\/li><li>and anything floating out to sea or foamy, discoloured, sandy, water flowing out beyond the waves.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Rips don\u2019t always show these signs all at once!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vslc.com.vn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/160510-tam-bien4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1003\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vslc.com.vn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/160510-tam-bien4.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Source: VN Express<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What to do if you get caught in a RIP<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>STAY CALM<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 a RIP current will not pull you under the water. Panicking and trying to fight the current can be fatal. Sometimes the current will carry you back to shore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CALL FOR HELP \u2013&nbsp;<\/strong>If there are lifeguards or other people on the beach, you can raise an arm and shout for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SWIM PARALLEL TO THE SHORE&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2013 RIP channels are narrow \u2013 swim parallel to the shore.
