The bottom line is there is&nbsp;no medical evidence&nbsp;that this works \u2013 we want to set the facts straight on heart attacks to save lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is a heart attack?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A heart attack happens when there is a sudden loss of blood flow to a part of your heart muscle. This can lead to cardiac arrest \u2013 where your heart stops pumping blood around your body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How can you recognise a heart attack?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heart attack symptoms vary from one person to another. The most common signs of a heart attack are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>chest pain: tightness, heaviness, pain or a burning feeling in your chest<\/li><li>pain in arms, neck, jaw, back or stomach: for some people, the pain or tightness is severe, while other people just feel uncomfortable<\/li><li>sweating<\/li><li>feeling light-headed<\/li><li>become short of breath<\/li><li>feeling nauseous or vomiting.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How can you help?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A heart attack is life-threatening. Urgent medical help is needed. Do not delay \u2013 call for an ambulance immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Does \u2018Cough CPR\u2019 work?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Cough CPR\u2019 has been spread around the internet for a number of years now, and we have recently noticed it in Vietnamese.&nbsp;<strong>There is no medical evidence to support \u2018Cough CPR\u2019,&nbsp;<\/strong>which suggests you can help yourself by coughing vigorously if you are having a heart attack and are alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bhf.org.uk\/heart-matters-magazine\/medical\/ask-the-experts\/cough-cpr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The British Heart Foundation say<\/a>&nbsp;\u201cA heart attack is when the blood supply to your heart muscle is interrupted; this is most commonly due to a blood clot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A heart attack can lead to a cardiac arrest, when your heart stops pumping blood around your body. You would become unconscious, and without immediate CPR (chest compressions and rescue breaths), you would die.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>So what can I do?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Learn how to recognise a heart attack, and call for medical help immediately.<\/li><li>Learn CPR and first aid \u2013 CPR buys time by keeping oxygenated blood flowing to the vital organs. Make sure you learn from a provider that follows the latest international, evidence based guidelines.<\/li><li>Educate \u2013 do not spread misinformation! Many people sharing the \u2018cough CPR\u2019 story are no doubt doing it to try and help \u2013 but misinformation in life-threatening situations can costs lives.
